A yoga teacher meet cute

How Alana and Megan started working together

It’s 2016 and a burnt out Alana, fresh from the trenches of grad school, has just moved to a cute little century home on Wellington Street. The best part? There’s a yoga studio around the corner.

Alana’s nervous - she’s just getting back into yoga after practising on and off through university. But lucky for her, her first class at the studio - Amma Yoga - is with Megan. Megan who smiles and welcomes her kindly, who makes the class sweat just standing in mountain pose, and who balances playfulness with mindful anatomical cueing to create a fun yoga flow with just the right amount of challenge.

Alana’s hooked and she’s at Amma regularly, practising with Megan and the other teachers. But then pandemic hits. Amma tragically closes and Megan and Alana drift apart.

Megan hangs up her teaching hat through the pandemic focusing instead on her RMT practice, returning to grad school, and managing a newly diagnosed chronic health condition. For a few years, Megan’s practice and physical capacity is limited. She finds a cute new studio in her neighbourhood and slowly starts returning to practise at the Attic Yoga in late 2021.

Then, in 2022, Alana graduates from her yoga teacher training at the Attic Yoga. Her very first public class is outdoors in Victoria Park and guess who she sees? Megan and her dog Leia! Alana is nervous and excited to be leading a class with a favourite instructor in the audience. Megan is excited to see her old student and support her new adventure.

Class happens, and they chat, more classes happen. Megan, once the teacher becomes a regular student of Alana’s classes. Alana’s permission-filled, safe space of a class creates safety for Megan while she navigates her health challenges. Alana’s skilled at keeping classes light and joyful all while getting in a sneaky work out (or a studio nap depending on where you're at). They realise that they share many of the same values when it comes to teaching.

A year later, they are in business together, co-teaching classes, and developing in-person and online classes, workshops, and more.

An average work day for Alana and Megan (and Leia and Polly)
